Several years ago an adolescent gang in Göteborg began robbing other kids – but they didn’t use violence or even skill, opting instead for a psychological ploy. Ruben Östlund was born in 1974 in Styrsö, a small Swedish island and is a multi-award winning director. INVOLUNTARY premiered in Cannes 2008 and awarded Östlund international recognition. Two years later he won the Golden Bear in Berlin for the short film INCIDENT BY A BANK.

After a documentary 2000 he made his award-winning feature debut, The Guitar Mongoloid, in 2004. Involuntary (2008) was selected for Cannes 2008 and has since been in major festivals worldwide. It was also Sweden´s nominee for Best Foreign Language Oscar that year.
